Aankona - a story woven by hand

Founded by Sangita Maji, a mother, entrepreneur and dreamer, in 2012.

A Legacy of Handcrafted Elegance

Aankona Design Studio is a celebration of India's rich handloom heritage, where tradition seamlessly blends with innovation. Every creation reflects the beauty of handcrafted textiles, intricate embroidery, and timeless craftsmanship, preserving the artistry passed down through generations.

Founded in 2012, Aankona began as a small boutique with a vision to create authentic, handcrafted garments that honor India's textile legacy. Over the years, it has evolved into a fully integrated design studio with its own handloom weaving division (established in 2016) and tailoring division (established in 2018), allowing complete control over quality, craftsmanship, and design.

Driven by a commitment to sustainability, ethical production, and artisan empowerment, Aankona works closely with skilled weavers and craftspeople to revive traditional Indian weaving techniques while creating contemporary designs for today's generation.

In 2019, Aankona expanded into the international market, taking India's handcrafted textiles to customers across the globe. Today, the brand is powered by a team of over 70 highly skilled professionals, the majority of whom are women, reflecting its dedication to creating meaningful employment and empowering local communities.

At Aankona, every thread tells a story of heritage, craftsmanship, and the people who bring these timeless creations to life.

Voices from the Creative Helm

Sangita Maji is the Founder of Aankona Design Studio and the driving force behind its vision of preserving India's rich textile heritage. With a deep passion for traditional craftsmanship and a strong commitment to social impact, she established Aankona in 2012 with the belief that handcrafted textiles deserve to be celebrated and sustained for generations to come.

For Sangita, Aankona is more than a fashion label—it is a movement that empowers artisans, revives forgotten weaving traditions, and creates opportunities for women. Her vision has always been to build something that outlives her: a brand that preserves India's cultural legacy while inspiring future generations.

She believes that every woman carries strength, grace, and individuality within herself, and Aankona reflects this philosophy through every handcrafted creation.

"Aankona is a feeling that lives inside all of us—the pride of being a woman, the magic of being you. I always wanted to contribute to our society and create something that lives far beyond my life. Aankona was born that way."

Under her leadership, Aankona has grown from a boutique into an integrated design studio with in-house weaving, tailoring, and export operations. Today, she continues to champion innovation rooted in tradition, collaborating with artisans and nurturing young talent to shape the future of Indian handloom while honoring its timeless past.
